DIY candle painting instructions

Step 1: Pick Your Motif

Start by choosing your design. Think small and cute, love hearts, daisies, bows, cherries, Christmas puddings, little stars.

Keep your designs fairly dainty and think about spacing. Before you start painting, plan roughly where you want each motif to sit on the candle so it feels balanced.

Step 2: Prepare Your Paint

Using the palette provided, squeeze a tiny amount of paint onto it. A little goes a long way.

Mix your colours as needed. Use the colour wheel for guidance if you would like to experiment or create custom shades.

Step 3: Start Painting

Pop paint straight onto your brush. You do not need to use water, as water can cause the paint to separate from the wax.

Apply thin layers. The paint should not be raised or thick. It should dry within a few minutes.

If you would like more definition or a stronger colour, allow the first layer to dry fully, then gently go over it again with another thin coat.

Try not to overload the candle with paint. The more surface area covered, the more likely it is to drip when burning.

Step 4: Let Them Dry

Hang your candle to dry using an underwear octopus hanger, candle sticks, or anything that allows it to dry at a full 360 degrees.

Leave to dry for at least one hour, or until fully dry to the touch.

Step 5: Take Home & Enjoy

Once dry, pop your candles carefully into your bag and take them home to enjoy.

As always, please follow standard candle care guidance when burning. Never leave a candle unattended and trim the wick before lighting.
